TOPIC: WORKPLACE INJURIES AND CAL/OSHA: REGULATIONS AND REPORTING AND LIABILITIES, OH MY!

In this interactive session, we will examine the scope of Cal/OSHA’s authority in the workplace, discuss changes in the reporting requirement for workplace injuries, address current hot button topics for Cal/OSHA investigations, and look at liabilities that arise from a workplace injury.  Our speakers will also address the impacts of a Cal/OSHA violation and what can be done about it.

SPEAKERS: Daniel Morrison and Michael Wroniak

Daniel Morrison is the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security Manager for Central Admixture Pharmacy Services (CAPS) Inc, the nation’s largest network of outsourcing admixture pharmacies. CAPS is a pioneer in the outsourcing of compounded sterile preparations providing both custom and standard solutions to hospital and outpatient providers from 25 locations across the United States.  His responsibilities include workers’ compensation, personnel safety, injury and illness prevention, ensuring Federal and State regulatory compliance and training key personnel in reducing losses.   He has represented multiple companies in various Federal and State OSHA interactions ranging from employee complaints to serious injury investigations.  Prior to joining CAPS, Mr. Morrison served 10 years in the United States Navy where he served as a Combat Medical/Search and Rescue Technician, providing emergency transport and medical care for forward deployed operational units.  He also served as a master trainer for emergency medical technicians school, CPR, ACLS, PHTLS, and other trauma related specialty services.

Mr. Morrison received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Masters of Business Administration with a focus on Project Management, with distinction, from Grantham University.

Michael Wroniak is a partner with the law firm Collins, Collins, Muir + Stewart and manages the firm’s Orange County office. Mr. Wroniak’s career has focused on defending liability claims against public entities in Southern California.  He has represented public entities in matters involving dangerous conditions of public property, civil rights violations, excessive force and wrongful termination.  In the process, Mr. Wroniak has handled personal injury matters ranging from simple trip and falls to traumatic brain injury and wrongful death.  Mr. Wroniak’s trial practice also includes representing private entities in general litigation matters relating to personal injury, breach of contract, professional liability and construction law. Mr. Wroniak routinely counsels his clients on risk management issues, including contract development and negotiations, developing strategies and programs to mitigate risk and creating systems and procedures for ensuring proper handling of litigated matters.

Mr. Wroniak received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Chapman University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach.
